Abstract

Efficient means of transportation play an important role in the development of a nation in the modern world because movement of people in the present times has increased to higher levels than ever before. Higher levels of economic activity and economic growth increase the movement of people and goods across regions and cities. This movement of people is facilitated by various means of transportation like roadways, railways and airways. Movement within the urban centres is highly dependent on the public transport. Along with this, private vehicles are also used by commuters for daily travel. Public transport is comparatively cheaper and helps in reducing congestion on the roads but the management of public transport most of the times is a challenge for the government. In highly urbanized and highly populated areas public transport is desperately needed to ease off congestion and long traffic jams. In highly urbanized areas the level of economic activity is also high meaning thereby that the earning potential of people is also good. Higher income groups of people will prefer a good quality of public transport or otherwise they would travel using their own vehicles.
